The idea of the geopark is also intricately linked to the protection of nature and our cultural heritage. The idea is that those who understand and love our region will naturally gravitate towards its protection.
And in what does the special nature of our region lie? This small area is home to an unusually large amount of various cultural attractions and geological phenomena. You will surely be familiar with the iconic ruins of the Trosky Castle, built on the site where hot lava flowed, and clouds of smoke rose 16.5 million years ago. You've also probably heard of the exceptional Bozkov Cave.
However, you don't have to go far - right here in our campsite you can have the sandstone rock towers of the Hruboskalsko rock town behind you, the meandering flow of the Libuňka river at your feet, and at the same time see the majestic outline of the former Kozákov volcano in front of you. Or you can pop over to our Romantika tent field and enjoy the view of the medieval Valdštejn Castle.
Those who stay in our Podháj guesthouse will be just a stone's throw away from the springs, which were used a century ago for priessnitz's curative treatments.
If you want to learn more about our geopark, we recommend visiting the Bohemian Paradise Museum in Turnov (especially the archaeological and mineralogical expositions) and the Stonemason's House, or a trip to Nová Paka to the Treasury of Precious Stones.
As part of our summer holiday programmes for campsite guests, we organise precious stone cutting and regular excursions with our colleague Vítek called "A walk through Hruboskalsko with Vítek". In cooperation with the Centre for Environmental Education, we also prepare several guided walks during the summer and a so-called " Stonecutting Weekend" in autumn. We give advance notice of both events on Facebook and our website.
A special celebration of our geopark known as Geopark Day is held at our campsite at the turn of July and August. It's a perfect event for families and children to try out a range of traditional arts and crafts together, and maybe even take away a nice souvenir.
So don't hesitate and come visit our campsite in the Bohemian Paradise Geopark. We look forward to seeing you!
